30 year developmental impact report
We celebrate Thirty Years of the Canary Wharf Group and 34 years of Alex Neil Estate Agents in Docklands. During the last 30 years, Canary Wharf Group has masterminded the evolution of the Canary Wharf Estate, centred on Britain's second tallest building at One Canada Square. The tower itself was eclipsed in height by the Shard in 2010.
Alex Neil Estate Agents Rotherhithe & Bermondsey, Canary Wharf & Docklands, Bow & Bethnal Green, and Chislehurst & Bromley offices were founded in 1984, four years before the construction of Canary Wharf. As a result, we've witnessed the continual changes to the towering skyline we see today.
And, like the Canary Wharf Group, we have evolved whilst many of our founding principles still run strongly through the business today. First-class service delivery and our ability to adapt to new challenges are as important now as they were in 1984.
Furthermore, we continue to thrive and have progressed to be the respected, leading independent estate agents we are today. In celebration of their 30-year tenure, Canary Wharf Group has released their 30 Years of Canary Wharf Local Impact Report.
It makes for fascinating reading, along with many impressive numbers and statistics, for example, Employment: "Canary Wharf supports 398,198 jobs in the UK, of which nearly 149,000 are within the Isle of Dogs cluster.
"This figure accounts for 54% of the jobs in Tower Hamlets. Of the 120,000 Tower Hamlets residents in work, it is estimated that over 12,000 work in Canary Wharf." To ensure this economic impact is felt locally, close partnerships are developed with local authorities to identify skills gaps and training needs so that local people can benefit. For example, at the inception of the Canary Wharf development in 1987, the Tower Hamlets and Canary Wharf Further Education Fund were created to promote the advancement of further, higher and postgraduate education and vocational training among Tower Hamlets residents. In the past 20 years, there have been over 2,400 beneficiaries receiving a share of over £2.4 million.
