Eltham Area Guide & Local Information: Eltham is located in South East London and within the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It gives the impression of being in the middle of the countryside. Abundant green spaces in parks and woodland are easy to locate and enjoy across the area. Eltham South and North Parks sit on either side of the busy A2. The latter road provides access to central London and the M25. Between the A2 and A20, you’ll find beautiful Avery Hill Park, and west of Footscray Road is the Royal Blackheath Golf Club.

Eltham was Henry VIII's favourite home, and he enjoyed his youthful years at Eltham Palace. Edward II purchased the original palace building in 1305, and by the late 15th century, it had become one of the largest Royal palaces in England. However, it fell into decline during the Civil War and was restored in the 1930s by the Courtauld family.

English Heritage owns the building, which has many rooms open to the public. The beautiful gardens are well worth visiting.

Eltham’s bustling High Street has seen much investment and improvement and is home to many chains, independent retailers, cafes, restaurants, pubs, and bars. A new Vue Cinema provides entertainment and dining-out options. Residential properties vary in stature, and many building periods are represented in Eltham.

This variety can suit many different spending budgets. In addition, Eltham Station is in Travelcard Zone 4 and provides regular rail services and commute options to Charing Cross, Cannon Street and London Victoria.
