Catford Area Guide & Local Information: Catford is in the London borough of Lewisham in South East London. The name "Catford" derives from where cattle crossed the Ravensbourne River in Saxon times. Ravensbourne River dissects nearby Ladywell Fields, a local park near Catford's two stations. On the southern side of the South Circular, you can make the most of another park with cycling and walking routes in Riverview Walk and River Pool Linear Park.

The architecture of Catford was heavily influenced by 1960s and 1970s development when many buildings were modernised. Significant regeneration aims to create new retail space, improve road networks, and provide new community facilities and open spaces.

There will also be hundreds of new homes across the town and Lewisham Borough. These will mix with the area's Edwardian, Victorian and modern flats already found. Catford's most famous landmark is the Catford Cat, a giant sculpture of a black cat which you can see above the entrance to the Catford Centre. The centre is small, housing a few high-street stores and food chains. The town centre has cafes, shops and street food, making Catford a pleasant place to shop and socialise.

The Broadway Theatre brings local and international talent to the area, putting this small town on the map. Two Catford train stations in Travelcard Zone 3, Catford and Catford Bridge, provide access to London Bridge, Blackfriars, Charing Cross and Cannon Street. If you want to find out the value of your property in SE6 and estate agents in Catford, we are the estate agent to call using 020 3941 9966.
